CCD or DSLR cameras (with astronomy modified filter) may also be sensitive to infrared or ultraviolet parts of the spectrum. For certain applications, such as astrophotography with color cameras, this leads color balance problems. This problem is solved by inserting, in front of the camera, a UV/IR Cut filter.
In addition to improving the color balance, the UV/IR Cut filter is perfect when used with telescopes that use lens systems (such as refractors). In fact, these instruments generally work well in the visible frequencies but are not designed (except for particular cases) also for the infrared and ultraviolet. Because of this problem, the stars in the image may have a small halo. Using a UV/IR Cut filter, this effect is eliminated.
Despite the low price, this UV/IR Cut filter offers a very high transmissivity. All filters are carefully tested to verify the quality of the substrate and antireflection coating: in this way the filters do not add problems to your pictures and there are no annoying reflections (effects that may occur in economic models).
How to use the filters: The filters are available in two diameters: 31.8mm (1,25") and 50.8mm (2") . These standards are commonly used by telescopes and their accessories. The filters can be used with a CCD or a a DSLR camera (using appropriate photo adapters), but also screwed to optical accessories such as eyepieces or diagonals. When you choose the version of your filter, be careful to choose the diameter compatible with your equipment.
