Motic, fundada en 1988 para la fabricación de microscopios compuestos convencionales, ha logrado crecer hasta contar con una plantilla de 2000 empleados. Tiene oficinas comerciales en Canadá, Alemania, Hong Kong y los Estados Unidos, pero la sede se encuentra en Xiam, China. En ella trabajan más de 100 ingenieros y técnicos en el desarrollo de microscopios.
A finales de la década de los 90, Motic empezó a crear microscopios digitales asequibles. Actualmente, es una de las marcas líderes en el sector de la microscopía digital.
