Material to self-assemble 5 masks for everyday use:
- Hypoallergenic filter pad, dermatologically and allergologically tested. Can be cut to child size.
- Food-safe foil elements
- Elastic cord
- Shaped-wire inserts
Also required: scissors, ruler, pencil, a nail and a spoon. Assembly time: approximately 30 minutes for the first mask and about 10 minutes each thereafter.
To reuse the mask can be heated in an oven for 10 minutes at 80°C- 90°C- this reliably disables viruses.
Note: Homemade masks (everyday masks) such as these are not medical products and not protective equipment in the legal sense and are therefore only suitable for private use. They can be worn where certified protection masks are not necessary or are not available. (See also: information from the BfArM on the use of hand-made masks in the section "Medical Products".)
When should the mask be worn?
A face mask is recommended whenever you are on the move in a public space. In particular in places where it is difficult to avoid other people, for example at work, in the supermarket or on public transport. By wearing the mask you reduce the probability of infecting other people. A small measure with a big effect!
Do the masks protect?
Fundamentally, these masks do not serve to protect the individual, but instead the well-being of others nearby. If all fellow citizens are considerate and wear these masks, it reduces the risk of transmitting corona- and other viruses for the whole of society. This is because these pathogens are spread in droplets which are emitted, for example, when talking, coughing or sneezing. So by wearing the mask you reduce the risk to other people of infection from your germs.
