The CEM70EC has the characteristic look of the tried and tested CEM mounts. CEM stands for centre-balanced equatorial mount. This design allows for an especially generous load capacity to mount weight ratio. In the case of the CEM70, this ratio is 2,3. So the mount carries more than double its own weight! This makes the CEM70EC suitable for mobile use as well as being a good mount for observatories.
The stepper motors and toothed belt drives provide a high level of positioning accuracy in GoTo mode, but their main benefit is very precise tracking with a periodic error of less than +/- 3.5 arcseconds - and all this with the smooth operation associated with all iOptron mounts.
- Integrated iPolar camera. This camera replaces the traditional polarscope and facilitates precise orientation from the comfort of your laptop.
- Stepper motors (1.8° with 128 microsteps) for precise location and tracking
- Go2Nova 8407 hand-held controls with built-in heating to protect the generous display against misting
- 32-channel GPS: The computerised controls always know where they are and already know the date and time for GoTo initialisation.
- Advanced cable management with the option to connect accessories
- Dual mounting head for Vixen-style or Losmandy-style prism rails. With a length of 20 centimetres, the head also holds heavy telescopes securely!
- Large dials which are easy to use even when wearing gloves
- Inbuilt encoder
With the CEM70EC, astrophotographers can enjoy an extremely efficient device which leaves nothing to be desired, even when it comes to load capacity.
The CEM70EC comes in a sturdy carry case.
Our expert comment:
If there are small discrepancies when the “zero position” is first activated, iOptron has provided advice to resolve this:
"Search zero position is a function to bring the mount to a rough zero, a few degrees off is possible. At the end of Search Zero, it will ask calibration. Use arrow keys to move RA and DEC to adjust the positions to physical zero position. When done, set zero position. This position will be memorized in the controller as Zero Position.
One may further refine zero position by the following steps:
Search zero -> goto a bright star and center it ->sync to target -> goto zero position ->set zero position.
This is a true (accurate) zero position."
