The LS80MT is a telescope for observing the Sun in H-alpha light with a clear aperture of 80mm and 560mm focal length. As it has no central obstruction such that the image is especially clear. The lens can reach its full resolution potential!
In H-alpha light, solar prominences are visible at the edge of the Sun, as well as filaments and flares on its surface. Observing the Sun in H-alpha is always impressive and varied! The integrated etalon filter achieves a half width of less than 0.7 Angstrom.
Focusing takes place using a solid 2-inch drawtube with 1:10 reduction.
The real star of the show when it comes to Lunt’s Allround telescope is its modular construction: You can simply detach the red-painted H-alpha etalon and replace it with a separately available conversion kit. Then you will have a high-quality ED apochromat with special FPL-53 glass for nocturnal observation and astrophotography. After converting it, you can also observe the Sun in white light by using a Herschel wedge. It is also possible to use a CaK module for observing the Sun in this spectral line - a truly universal telescope!
PT pressure tuner: Fine-tuning on the Etalon filter is provided via an air pressure system. A small change to air pressure within a pressure chamber inside the telescope changes the refractive index of the air, resulting in precise yet effortless adjustment to the H-alpha spectral line. The pressure tuner guarantees a uniform image with no central obstructions and a long-lasting wear-resistant etalon.
The B1800 blocking filter is very well suited to visual solar observation but can also be utilised for solar photography using cameras with a small sensor chip or which use the APS-C format. For cameras with large sensors, a telescope with a larger blocking filter should be used so that the sensor will be illuminated. For solar photography, we generally recommend so-called planetary cameras which work smoothly with this blocking filter.
