This Video Time Inserter was developped specifically to fill the needs of IOTA members who wish to use video methods to obtain precision timing of astronomical phenomena. IOTA-VTI will be suitable for any video timing application, but design of the system—software, electronic and mechanical features—has given special attention to the needs of those who wish to video-record occultations.
This is the european PAL (25 frames/sec) version of the inserter to be used with Watec CCIR camera.
After receiving the IOTA-VTI, only three cables need to be connected to get started. It may take a few minutes for the GPS to get its first fix, but subsequent fixes will usually require a minute or less.
Three indicator LEDs show current operational status. A 1/4-20 tee-nut built into the base of the enclosure allows for easy attachment to a tripod or other support mechanism.
You will need to provide:
- a nominal 12-volt DC power source using a 5.5-mm by 2.1-mm coaxial plug (center positive)
- an input video signal using an RCA-type plug
- a display/recording device accepting the IOTA-VTI output signal via an RCA-type plug.
VTI technical specs:
- RCA in/out; PAL format (25 images/sec)
- Kodak for tripod mounting
- internal GPS, few minutes to get signal
- welcome screen at start up
- geographical location display (user select)
- time incrusted on your video signal for accurate timing
