Product description

Highly corrected optics for wide field observation and astrophotography.

Developed in conjunction with the famous “comet hunter”, David H. Levy.

The Maksutov-Newtonian system has advantages and disadvantages when compared to the classic Newtonian due to its design. Aside from the higher price, its weight is its major downside - the thick meniscal lens on the front aperture significantly contributes to this. The Maksutov-Newtonian telescope’s main advantage over the classic Newtonian is its edge definition. Newtonian telescopes only produce completely clear images in the very centre. Outside the centre of the image, these telescopes have a dominant picture flaw - the so-called coma. This is systemic - it has nothing to do with production tolerances and applies to all brands. The coma “warps” the star point - it turns into a trail, like a small comet. This reduces focus and contrast as a result. The Maksutov-Newtonian also has this fault but at a considerably smaller scale. The result is an incredibly clear image for visual observationsas well as fordigital photography with SLR cameras. The Maksutov-Newtonian is, therefore, an almost ideal all-round telescope whichbrings the field into sharp contrast without additional correctors.

It not only matters which telescope you buy but also where you buy it. Our additional services:

  • We are a leading telescope dealer and know the devices we sell. Our customer service team will gladly help you after your purchase if you have problems with assembly or operation.
  • We provide a copy of the 80-page Telescope ABC beginners handbook with every telescope.
  • We also provide an edition of the exciting astronomy magazine, “Sterne und Weltraum” with each telescope.

With the performance of a 5" top corrected refractor

Review by macoram on 05.05.2017 20:32:17

( 5 / 5 )

This 6" carbon mak-newt has roughly the optical performance of a top quality 5" apo triplet refractor already fitted with a field flattener. It allows exquisite astrophotos up to APS-C featuring a relatively short light thermal-tolerant tube, superior optics and sold together with a nice 2" 30mm wide-angle (70d) eyepiece and an upright image illuminated reticle finder.
This scope is a BARGAIN costing at least 3x less than an optically equivalent fully equipped refractor solution.
The only caveat is the awkward position of the eyepiece ports typical of the reflectors in a eq mount but only a minor nuisance.

Refractor power 5"

Astro Levy great, finder unknown without reduction, used to be a telescope with a case, today comes in a paper box. A little more difficult to collimate. Binoculars are not for the beginner.I'd rather buy a 5" refractor today

Binoculars super - unknown black viewfinder -1*

- Excellent quality carbon telescope.
-Viewfinder reverse image. Unusable even as a guider, there is nowhere to put the camera and there is no viewfinder reducer.
