The artificial star easy star allows you to collimate a telescope during the day.
On the underside of the easy star there is an aluminium plate with a 1/4" photo thread. With this thread you can attach the easy star to a photo tripod. To make it easy to find the artificial star in the field, the pinhole can be turned to the side. Once you have aligned the telescope with the easy star, turn the pinhole aperture in front of the green LED. The hole in the aperture, which has a diameter of 0.05 millimetres, produces a clear artificial star. You can now begin adjusting the optics.
Adjust the optics so that the diffraction rings are concentric intra- and extra-focal. The optics of your telescope are now perfectly adjusted. The wavelength of the green easy star is selected so that the eyes can easily recognise the diffraction rings around the easy star. The light can also be dimmed to adjust the brightness to a comfortable level. The knob on the easy star's potentiometer is green fluorescent. This allows you to find the instrument even at dusk or at night when the easy star is switched off.
