Celestron AdvanceVX Header

The Advanced VX mount is perfect for getting started with astrophotography. It is easy to transport and quick to set up. This is ensured by its ergonomic design, with feature such as a carrying handle and large rotating knobs for polar axis and azimuth adjustment. You can even operate them with gloves on.

The mount can carry Newtonian telescopes up to 8 inches (200mm) and smaller refractors. A combination with Celestron’s SC optics is also very good, as these compact telescopes have only a small lever effect.

The Advanced VX includes all the technical features of Celeston's large CGX mount: The All Star polar alignment means that a polar finder is unnecessary. In addition, the Advanced VX is compatible with Celeston's StarSense modules and can also be controlled with a combination of Celeston's NexRemote software and a PC or laptop.

All-Star Polar Alignment

All-Star Polar Alignment

Every equatorial mount must be aligned. This means that the hour axis must be aligned parallel to the Earth's axis. This alignment is achieved by pointing at the star Polaris. However, Polaris is not always visible and finding the pole star with a polar finder is a demanding, gymnastic exercise.

Thanks to Celestron’s All-Star Polar Alignment, you just need to use any bright star to set up the telescope. It doesn't have to be Polaris, so you don't need a clear view to the north. In addition, this method also works in the southern hemisphere, where no star marks the celestial pole.

You then follow the detailed instructions on the hand-held controller display and after a few steps the mount is aligned, and indeed more precisely than with any other method!

EdgeHD Optics

EdgeHD Optics

EdgeHD is an aplanatic flat-field Schmidt optical system designed to produce aberration-free images with pinpoint stars all the way to the edge of the field of view of today’s largest imaging sensors and wide field eyepieces.

EdgeHD virtually eliminates both field curvature and off-axis star coma, providing an astrograph-quality system at a fraction of the price of competitors.

StarBright XLT

StarBright XLT

A very important factor in evaluating the performance of telescopes is transmission, that is the proportion of incident light that arrives at the image plane.
The main characteristics of the StarBright®-XLT coating are as follows:

  • Highly reflective multi-layer mirror coating: the mirror coatings consist of precisely applied layers of aluminium, quartz, titanium dioxide and more quartz. The reflectivity is constant across the spectrum, and the three layers of coating provide excellent protection against the ageing of the mirror surfaces
  • Corrector plate: water white glass instead of soda lime glass is used for the corrector plate in all Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain optics with StarBright-XLT coating. Uncoated, this glass delivers approximately 90.5% transmission. Together with the StarBright®-XLT coating, its transmission reaches 97.4%!

The entire optical system consisting the corrector plate, mirror and lenses achieve a transmission maximum of 89% at 520 nanometres (where the dark-adjusted human eye has its highest light sensitivity). The average transmission over the entire visual spectrum from 400 to 750 nanometres is 83.5%.

PWI Telescope Control Software

PWI Telescope Control Software

The software was developed together with PlaneWave Instruments and enables a highly accurate GoTo control. The PointXP Mount Modelling, which is also used in the Celestron StarSense module, is used for this purpose, and allows a much more accurate model of the sky than the electronics of a hand control box. Various reference stars are used to compensate for numerous types of alignment errors including telescope flexing.

Besides the higher accuracy, control via a PC/laptop combined with the stored star chart is particularly simple and intuitive. In addition, the PWI software has a larger object database than the manual control. If you have Internet access, PWI can even access the SIMBAD professional astronomical database.

The PC/laptop is connected via USB 2.0. The PWI software runs on Windows 7, 8, and 10.
