In contrast to digital cameras for photography or industrial inspection, many aspects of the microscope cameras are optimized to meet specific requirements of applications in science, research and documentation. As each application has very specific requirements, there is a wide range of different digital camera models to choose from. Different pixel sizes, for example, regulate camera sensitivity and spatial resolution. Lower pixel count enables higher frame rates and larger sensors offer better coverage of the field of view.

The Axiocam 208 colour: your smart, versatile 8-megapixel colour microscope camera for training, documentation and routine applications. This CMOS camera delivers crisp, detailed real-time images with high colour fidelity at full 4K resolution with an outstanding 30 frames per second. Choose between three operating modes:
1. In stand-alone mode, you don't need a PC to capture microscope images. The camera automatically adjusts brightness and white balance and offers live imaging features such as sharpening, noise reduction and HDR. Digital documentation of your sample has never been easier.
2. Alternatively, you can connect the CMOS camera via USB or a network and then control it wirelessly using the easy-to-use Labscope imaging app. Since multiple cameras can be connected to the network, the Axiocam 208 color is the ideal solution for applications in digital classrooms and networked laboratories.
3. You can also use the powerful ZEN image processing software with your Axiocam 208 colour.
Axiocam 208 color is equipped with a TWAIN driver that provides basic camera functions. It enables secure image data transfer to TWAIN-compatible third-party software solutions, which are commonly used in routine laboratories. When the camera is connected to Axiolab 5 or Axioscope 5, the live image is automatically scaled.
