This innovative parallactic mount carries up to 25 kg of instrument load and is designed for both visual and photographic use. It is also easy to transport.
The sophisticated mount is free of gear play or vibrations, is manufactured with the highest precision and runs absolutely reliably. Every astrophotographer dreams of a stable, quiet mount that simply does its job without any problems, is easy to transport, can be conveniently aligned and tracks cleanly. These criteria have been met with the Linear Wi-Fi.
The toothed belt eliminates the mechanical gear play that traditional mounts suffer from. Avalon uses a four-stage gear train and power is transmitted via toothed belts. The advantage is absolutely backlash-free reversal of the direction of rotation in right ascension and declination. There is no longer any backlash problem.
In addition, tracking is more consistent overall and there are no more sudden breaks, which are difficult for autoguiders to correct. The pendulum error, on the other hand, can be easily corrected by any autoguider. Stars appear finer overall with mounts that feature this new drive technology because vibrations, shifts and overcorrections are prevented by the autoguider.
The advantages of the toothed belt drive at a glance:
- No gear play during reversal – immediate response of the mount (fast reverse)
- More precise, more consistent tracking without gear errors
- Quieter operation
- Better vibration damping
- No lubricant required – the mount has no parts that wear out over time
General advantages of the Avalon Linear:
- Very stable and lightweight, making it very portable
- Carrying handle on the housing
- No exposed cables: All cables to the motors and electronics are routed inside the housing
- GoTo control: The Linear uses the StarGo system, which is based on the widely used and proven Synscan Goto system, which uses reliable microstep technology. The reliable control has an autoguider interface and an RS232 connection, so firmware updates can be downloaded from the Internet. It is fully compatible with the ASCOM platform and supports numerous sophisticated functions such as the T-point method, remote control and much more.
- All metal surfaces are high-quality anodised, providing excellent protection against scratches. They are also protected against environmental influences and are very durable.
- An easy-to-read polar height scale and index markings are engraved into the surface and the polar block of the mount.
- The clamps on both axes are easy to operate even when wearing gloves.
- Ergonomic knobs for fine adjustment of azimuth and polar height. Unlike many other models, the weight of the mount does not rest on the polar height screw, allowing for easy and precise adjustment.
- 3" connection plate (75 mm) according to Losmandy standard, with a single clamp screw and two clamping points. A large clamp is better suited to heavy telescopes, as the weight is distributed over a larger area.
- Universal connection plate (prepared for Baader hardwood tripods, Skywatcher or Celestron EQ tripods and many others).
- Quick and stable attachment of the counterweight bar facilitates assembly of the mount.
- Pole finder for easy north alignment
- High-quality bearings in both axes for very smooth movement without jerking, even with heavy telescopes, and perfect balance.
- Very short settling time (see also here).
- Quick to set up: The linear mount can be set up and aligned in just a few minutes, thanks to the special crosshairs and support from the Synscan control; after just a few minutes, the mount is ready for long-exposure shots.
- Easy to balance: Thanks to the very low friction in the right ascension and declination axes, perfect balance is easy to achieve.
- Lightweight and very stable: The mount head weighs 12 kg (without counterweights and counterweight bar).
