Plössl eyepieces are often underestimated because they are considered inexpensive, inferior and mass-produced. Takahashi wanted to restore the classic optical design, which offers numerous advantages when carefully constructed and manufactured, to its former glory. To this end, the renowned Japanese manufacturer used glass with very low chromatic dispersion and ensured that the eyepiece accurately reproduced the optical properties of the associated objective.
To develop his eyepiece series, Takahashi simulated the combination of numerous optical eyepiece designs at the focal point of aberration-free instruments such as the TOA apochromatic refractor and the Mewlon CRS telescope. The optimal combination was achieved with Takahashi's revised Plössl design.
