A coma corrector is a corrective lens for Newtonian telescopes. This type of telescope can cause distortion of the image at the edge of the field of view, making stars look like little comets. This aberration is therefore called 'coma'.
To correct the coma in Newtonian telescopes, Massimo Riccardi designed a 3-element coma corrector for TS Optics. With a working distance of 66 to 71 millimetres, the corrector offers sufficient back focus for all standard CCD and DSLR cameras, as well as off-axis-guiders, filter wheels, etc.
Attachment to the focuser via the M68x1 thread: The corrector has an M68x1 ZEISS-level thread fitted to the top of the housing. This thread allows it to be screwed onto many focusers, such as the MoonLite 2.5” or the Starlight Feather Touch. The focuser simply requires an M68x1 internal thread on the camera side. This thread has long since become the standard for high-quality focusers.
Camera adaptation and required working distances: The corrector also has an M68x1 external thread on the camera side. This allows for the easy attachment of exciting accessories, such as the TS Optics M68 off-axis-guider. Most cameras with large sensors already feature an M68x1 connection or, at the very least, an adapter for this thread.
Working distances are always calculated from the start of the M68x1 thread:
- Focal length 600 mm: working distance 66 mm
- Focal length 800 mm: working distance 68 mm
- Focal length 1000 mm: working distance 69.5 mm
- Focal length 1200 mm: working distance 69.75 mm
- Focal length 1500 mm: working distance 70.5 mm
- Focal length 1800 mm: working distance 71 mm
