Starlight Instruments has selected one of the best coma correctors in the world and created something ingenious: a system that guarantees excellent imaging right into the corners of all Newtonian telescopes from f/3 onwards, without having to worry about the correct distances.
The result: SIPS perfectly corrects any Newtonian from f/3 for all eyepieces - for visual use.
A quick guide to installing the SIPS: The SIPS is optimised for the 2" Feather Touch FTF2015BCR and comes fully assembled, so all you need is the right base. The integrated coma corrector shifts the focal point outwards by 47 mm. This is exactly the overall length of the SIPS, so there is no need to calculate a new focus position. The focal length extension of the Paracorr is 1.15x. This only needs to be taken into account when selecting the correct magnification.
By rotating the Paracorr element, you can then set exactly the right distance to the focuser. This only needs to be done once and then applies to all eyepieces. The distance depends on the aperture ratio of the Newtonian telescope.
Collimation of the Newtonian telescope: We recommend always adjusting the Newtonian without SIPS. This is easier because the Paracorr has an optical effect due to the focal length extension. After adjustment, you can simply reinsert the SIPS. The adjustment remains unchanged.
For which telescopes and areas of application is the SIPS suitable: We recommend using it on fast Dobson and Newton telescopes. The SIPS is only intended for visual observation, not for photography. For photography, the Paracorr with the appropriate adaptations is available for purchase separately.
