This refers to whether a filter wheel is integrated in the camera housing, or is included in the scope of delivery as an external filter wheel.

Filter wheels are used to hold colour filters for astrophotography with monochrome cameras. Other filters, such as linear filters, can also be conveniently rotated into the light path using the filter wheel.
