USB heater bands: For a clear view of the sky
The nights are not always as dry and clear as we would like them to be. Often, the optics fog up during the night. Eyepieces, lenses and Schmidt plates: when a fine misty layer settles on your optics, your night of observing is over. But it doesn't have to be that way. Why do your optics fog up?
Anyone who wears glasses knows exactly what effect dew has on an optical surface. You come in from the cold into a warm room. Suddenly, a fine mist of tiny water droplets forms on the glasses because the warm air condenses on the cold glass surfaces. Exactly the same thing happens on the lenses of your telescope optics. When your optics cool down, condensed water settles on the surface. Time for a clear view!
Compact and always available
Entirely practical - at the beginning of your observing session, simply wrap the heating strip around the OTA or your eyepiece. The strip can be put on like a glove and fixed in place with its adhesive strap fastener. After observing, simply stow it back in your eyepiece case. Your telescope heater for ensuring that you always have a clear view.
Keeps your optics free from fogging
Simply connect the cable with a USB plug to a suitable power source:
- Up to 40cm in length, the heater strap comes with a USB-A plug. A small power bank or standard USB power supplies that support fast charging are sufficient. (Do not connect the USB-A plug to a computer, as in some cases its USB port could be overloaded).
- From a length of 50cm, the heater strap has a USB-C plug. It requires 12 volts, which is what most USB power sources with Power Delivery (USB-PD) deliver.
Tip: If your power bank has a cigarette lighter connection, you can use the Omegon Power Hub C28 3x 12V + 4x USB to connect additional USB ports.
The direct current distributes the energy evenly across the band at just 0.2 watts per centimetre. What this means for you: Your heater strap effectively keeps the temperature a few degrees above the outside temperature. Dew no longer stands a chance. It also consumes minimal energy and is therefore gentle on your batteries.
