Series TSN-880
The pure fluorite crystal used in these models is the optimum optical material for reducing chromatic aberration, providing the ultimate viewing experience. (TSN-883/884 only.)
The extraordinary light gathering capability supports observation during dusk and during dawn.
All spotting scopes are waterproof to JIS protection class 7 and filled with dry nitrogen gas to prevent the lens from fogging.
JIS 7 = Japanese Industrial Standard / class 7 = Protected against the effects of temporary immersion in water.
Kowa uses pure FLUORITE CRYSTALS in the TSN 883 and 884 models – this is a unique selling point for Kowa:
Competitors use fluoride glass, i.e. ‘only’ a fluorite additive, whilst we grind a pure fluorite crystal and use it as a lens. This serves primarily to prevent colour fringing.
Further technical features:
- All lenses are made from ECO glass
- The internal focusing system reduces image shake.
- Dual-focusing system with 2 focusing wheels: the larger focusing wheel is for quick focusing – the entire focus range from 5 m to infinity is covered by 2 turns – whilst the smaller focusing wheel is for fine-tuning, making it easier to achieve precise focus, particularly at higher magnifications.
- The eyepieces are protected from falling out or getting lost by a locking system.
- Both the spotting scopes and the eyepieces are waterproof and filled with dry nitrogen to prevent misting.

Our expert comment:
The Kowa TSN-883 spotting scope was extensively tested in the magazine "Vögel 03/07". It proved to be an exceptionally good choice among a range of other high-end spotting scopes. Its excellent colour correction and outstanding contrast were particularly highlighted. Even at high magnifications and with distant objects, the spotting scope impressed with its brilliance, according to the magazine Vögel. In terms of resolution, contrast, colour fringing, distortion and focusing , it received the best ratings in a test with 10 competitors. This can of course be transferred to the TSN-884 straight-view model.
