This filter is designed for photometric UV photography in the Sloan SDSS u’ band. Suitable for telescopes and objectives with an aperture ratio of f/4 and slower.
The Chroma Sloan-ugriz’ filters are designed for photometric imaging in five different bands:
- Sloan u’: Photometric UV filter from the ugriz’ series
- Sloan g’: Photometric green filter from the ugriz’ series
- Sloan r’: Photometric red filter from the ugriz’ series
- Sloan i´: Photometric near-infrared filter from the ugriz´ series
- Sloan z’: Photometric near-infrared filter (longer wavelengths) from the ugriz’ series
Unlike the Bessell system, the Sloan system has broader passbands and slightly higher transmission levels, making it more suitable for faint objects such as galaxies. The ugriz’ filters differ slightly in their characteristics from the corresponding griz filters of the Gunn system, as they are specifically designed for the 2.5-metre Sloan telescope.
