The meteorite Erg Chech 002, or EC 002 for short , was discovered in May 2020 in the Erg Chech region of the Sahara in southwestern Algeria (Adrar province). It has a mass of 31.78 kg and is classified as an ungrouped achondrite. Its metamorphosis (geology) and crystallisation age are estimated at 4.566 billion years. It is believed to be a fragment of the crust of a small protoplanet from the time when our solar system was formed.
Its material is similar to terrestrial andesite, a rock also known as islandite, which is a volcanic rock belonging to the magmatic rock group. The meteorite is therefore considered to be the oldest known volcanic or even basaltic rock on Earth (as of 2021). (Source: Wikipedia)
