The 2022 discovery, meteorite Jikharra 001, is one of the unique HED achondrites - specifically eucrite-melt breccias. This rare category of meteorites comes from the asteroid Vesta, one of the largest bodies in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

With an estimated mass of around 3 tonnes, Jikharra 001 ranks among the largest stony meteorites ever found, making it an admirable object not only for collectors but also for scientists.

Jikharra 001 impresses with its intricate structure, which speaks volumes about the intense collisions Vesta faced during its existence. It contains large fragments of the original rock embedded in re-crystallized melt, composed mainly of calcite plagioclase and pigeonite. These minerals show how impacts and high temperatures have reshaped the surface of this celestial body. This fascinating sample is not only a beautiful specimen for the collection, but also a valuable source of information about the history of the solar system.
