The sun is the star right outside our front door. The celestial body that determines our lives is a magnificent astronomical object that shows a new face every day. Even with the (protected!) naked eye, fascinating observations can be made.

This book explains the phenomena on the Sun and shows how they can be observed and photographed with modern solar telescopes. In addition to conventional "white light", this includes observation in special spectral lines of the elements hydrogen and calcium.

Particular emphasis is placed on safety during solar observation. Various filter methods are explained in detail and their suitability for different observation purposes is highlighted.
