Special glass for converting Canon® EOS DSLR cameras for astrophotography, allowing the spectral sensitivity of the CMOS sensor to be used to its full extent.
This Astronomik MC clear glass is a finely polished and multi-coated special glass.
The glass is available in different sizes to suit the requirements of different Canon® EOS DSLR cameras. MC glass is mainly used to compensate for the optical light path of filters removed from the camera. It also prevents dirt particles from settling directly on the sensor, where they can cause noticeable spots on the image.
The MC clear glass has no filter effect and does not block infrared or UV light.
The camera converted with this Astronomik MC clear glass requires an additional filter in the beam path for perfect imaging with camera lenses, adaptors on refractors or light-refracting elements such as flatteners or reducers, which blocks the infrared or visible portion of the light, depending on which part of the spectrum is to be used. For everyday photography, we recommend an Astronomik OBW clip filter, which can be snapped directly into the housing without tools and restores the camera's sensitivity to its original state before conversion.
For astrophotography in visible light, we recommend at least one L-filter in the beam path. For IR photography, an Astronomik EOS ProPlanet 742 or 807 IR pass filter is ideal.
