BA310POL
Based on the success of the popular BA microscope series for biomedical applications, Motic is pleased to introduce the new BA310POL, a highly capable yet affordable polarising microscope for transmitted light samples. The BA310POL was developed for the examination of birefringent samples from petrography and mineralogy and can also be used in the plastics industry, where repeatable observations must be carried out accurately and reliably. The BA310POL is particularly well suited for teaching applications in materials science, where affordability and ease of use are important requirements.
lenses
Motic introduces its new stress-free EC Plan Achromat objectives. These lenses are made of high-quality glass and follow the successful Motic CCIS® optical concept. The multi-layer coating guarantees improved contrast and image quality. The ball-bearing quadruple revolver has rear-facing lenses. All other lenses can be individually centred with grub screws in relation to a given objective position.
eyepieces
The standard eyepiece N-WF 10X/20 for spectacle wearers is made of high-quality glass and ensures consistent diopter adjustment for both eyes. As required for polarisation, one eyepiece is equipped with a fixed crosshair.
Table
The BA310POL microscope tripod supports a pre-centred rotary table with a diameter of 160 mm. The hard-coated, chemical-resistant surface withstands wear and tear under harsh conditions. A high-precision ball bearing mechanism guarantees smooth and accurate rotation, while a continuous 360° scale with 1° increments allows precise positioning of the sample. The standard equipment includes sample clamps for fixing the slides.
Eyepiece adapters
With an eye relief of 55-75 mm, the BA310POL observation tubes guarantee hours of fatigue-free observation thanks to an ergonomic viewing angle of 30°. A large field of view (20 mm) allows quick and comfortable screening. The trinocular tube enables digital documentation using a wide range of digital cameras with a standard 20/80 beam split through the photo/video port. A 0/100 beam split is available as an option.
Intermediate tube
As part of the BA310POL assembly, the intermediate tube carries an analyser, a Bertrand lens and a slot for compensators. The analyser can be rotated 360° in 1° steps. A fixing screw helps to maintain the position for best extinction. The built-in Bertrand lens can be focused and centred, allowing access to the rear focal plane of the lenses, especially when working with konoscope. A DIN-compliant slot for compensators (20 mm x 6 mm) allows the use of all established compensators.
lighting
The transmitted light illumination is based on a 6V/30W halogen light source. A repeatable, homogeneous and uniform lighting is guaranteed by an adjustable field diaphragm and aperture diaphragm.

Document ation
Accurate documentation is an important part of natural sciences and industrial quality control today. As with all Motic BA series, the new BA310POL offers a choice of different imaging options.
Digital documentation
Combining the BA310POL with a Moticam digital camera provides excellent live images that can be easily stored for later use. All Motic cameras come equipped with software to convert the BA310POL into an analysis and documentation station. Since colour fidelity is a basic requirement for polarisation, Motic recommends the use of CCD sensor technology, which is featured in our research-grade Moticam Pro Line. This technology is superior to CMOS technology, especially when true colours are of special interest.
