Product description

The very impressive Sky-Watcher Heliostar-76Hα is a safe solar telescope for observing active solar prominences and other solar details in the H-Alpha band with an exceptionally low bandwidth of only 0.5 Angstrom or less.

When you view the Sun with such a narrow H-alpha bandwidth, you will be rewarded with exciting, awe-inspiring real-time observations of our closest star in all its fiery glory. Its bubbling surface reveals magnificent details such as solar flares, prominences, spicules, granulation and, of course, sunspots!

The Heliostar-76Hα uses different technologies to protect your eyes during observation, including a coating against thermal infrared radiation and a UV filter. The Etalon filter only allows the wavelength 656.28 nanometres to pass through. Since this light is emitted by hydrogen, it is also referred to as H-alpha radiation. In this light, the sun's chromosphere reveals itself in all its diversity.

The Etalon of the Heliostar-76Hα achieves a bandwidth of only 0.5 Angstroms without the costly and complex use of a second Etalon ("double stack"). It therefore achieves the same performance without additional effort.

The Heliostar-76Hα complies with and meets the transmission requirements of ISO 12312-2:2015 (filters for direct observation of the Sun).

Always use the telescope according to the instructions and take the utmost care when observing the sun! The permanently integrated solar finder is a helpful aid.

Never use the telescope without the deflection optics in front of the eyepiece, as these optics contain the blockfilter, which is essential for safe solar observation.

It not only matters which telescope you buy but also where you buy it. Our additional services:

  • We are a leading telescope dealer and know the devices we sell. Our customer service team will gladly help you after your purchase if you have problems with assembly or operation.
  • We provide a copy of the 80-page Telescope ABC beginners handbook with every telescope.

Our expert comment:

The included eyepiece does not do justice to the high quality of the telescope. I recommend to order the Lunt Solar Systems 1.25" 7.2mm - 21.5mm zoom eyepiece together with the telescope.

Review of the Sky-Watcher Heliostar 76 H-Alpha Solar Telescope

Review by F. H. on 29.03.2025 20:07:29

( 5 / 5 )

I’m very happy with the Sky-Watcher Heliostar 76 H-Alpha. Everything fits perfectly and the movements are smooth and precise, without any jerking or resistance. The build quality is excellent, and it feels very solid overall.

The only small downside for me is the included 20mm eyepiece — while it’s of good quality, the view of the Sun appears a bit too small for my taste. I would have preferred a 10mm eyepiece for a closer and more detailed view, but of course that’s just my personal preference.

What really stands out is the unbeatable price for the performance this telescope offers. For anyone looking to get into H-alpha solar observing without breaking the bank, this is an excellent choice.

Overall, this is a fantastic solar telescope and I can highly recommend it to anyone interested in observing the Sun in H-alpha!
