Very stable and lightweight tripod with double tube construction for maximum stability and portability!
The ARIES and CENTAURUS II tripods were developed specifically for 10Micron's mobile HPS encoder technology.
Both tripods offer the best load capacity in their weight class and are secured against sinking of a tripod leg.
Only since the 10Micron HPS mounts have become so widespread has it become clear how important it is that the encoder accuracy of 12 million measuring points (equivalent to a resolution of 0.15 arc seconds) is not compromised by a tripod (or a mirror flip, or a thin-sheet telescope tube or a wobbly focuser or a poor connection between the main tube and the guide tube - if you still want to guide...) is not negated.
Thanks to the absolute encoder, it is now possible to measure that a length change of one tenth of a millimetre in a tripod leg causes an offset of 10 arc seconds during tracking! This also applies if a tripod leg sinks into the ground by this amount during tracking.
For this reason, the tripod legs of the new tripods are made of a particularly hard aluminium alloy, the clamps for the tripod legs are dramatically oversized - and therefore each tripod tip has a particularly pressure-resistant support plate firmly mounted on the tripod tip so that it can be tilted.
Both 10Micron tripods have been optimised with the utmost care to ensure that you get the accuracy of the 10Micron encoder - without any compromise - even on the ground.
