Product description

With the H-alpha filter from Quark, you can turn your SLR camera into a solar telescope.

In H-alpha light at a wavelength of 656 nanometres, astronomers observe protuberances, filaments, spicules, flares and the active chromosphere of the sun. With the CAMERA QUARK H-alpha filter, you can photograph these spectacular phenomena of the sun directly. With a zoom lens, you can photograph the chromosphere in detail by changing the focal length or take a complete picture of the sun.

The CAMERA QUARK filter is simply mounted between the camera lens and the camera body. It is equipped with a suitable bayonet mount for this purpose. The CAMERA QUARK has an integrated 4.2x teleconverter lens, optimised for H-alpha. It ensures a flat image field.

As with every filter in the QUARK series, the etalon element is regulated by a heater. You will therefore need an external power source with a mini USB connection.

Included in delivery:

  • extension tube
  • An adaptor for connecting a diagonal mirror with a 1.25" thread.
  • A mounting base for connection to a photo tripod or an astronomical mount with a mount saddle for Vixen prism rails.
  • power pack

Please note: The manufacturer DayStar recommends the additional use of a lens filter (red, orange or yellow glass filter) for lenses with an aperture of more than 80 millimetres.

Our expert comment:

Good photo optics are an interesting option for quark filters, as the entire sun can still be captured at a focal length of up to 400 mm. However, DSLRs are not recommended as cameras due to their IR blocking filters. In addition, 75% of the pixels remain black with the standard Baeyer matrix. SW webcams are better and cheaper. The appropriate adaptor for connecting a diagonal mirror with a 1.25" thread or a webcam is included. Depending on the chip size and chip quality, there is a wide range of cameras available: https://www.astroshop.de/astrofotografie/kameras/15_35_10?sort=0&size=2&q=mono
