Microscopes for Naturopaths
The use of microscopes as diagnostic tools among naturopaths saw a significant resurgence during the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the classic applications in this field is darkfield blood analysis based on the method of Professor Enderlein.
An optimal darkfield microscope setup should include at least a standard 10x objective, which helps with focusing and positioning the specimen, as well as a high-magnification 100x oil immersion objective for the actual blood analysis. A built-in iris diaphragm in the objective further enhances image contrast.
The incoming light is typically shaped by a cardioid condenser or an additional LED light source positioned to provide oblique illumination of the sample. A microscope camera with HDMI output records the reflected image, enabling the naturopath to share and discuss findings directly and impressively with the patient.
