With a transmittance of OD 3.8, the Baader Digital Solar Filter (BDSF) is designed specifically and exclusively for photography.
Please do not use the BDSF filter for visual observation!
The filter has the same frame and mechanical properties as the other AstroSolar solar filters from Baader. The difference lies in the film used. Instead of the film with OD 5.0 designed for visual observation, the AstroSolar photo film with OD 3.8, which has been tried and tested for years, is used here. This enables the shortest exposure times and thus allows the turbulence in the Earth's atmosphere to be literally frozen. Use the BDSF filter together with a planetary camera, i.e. a camera with a high frame rate, from whose video stream you can then generate a composite image on your computer. This is a popular method in solar, lunar and planetary photography.
For photography using a camera lens or for longer exposure times, it is better to use AstroSolar solar filters from the series
- ASTF - for telescopes
- ASSF - for spotting scopes
- ASBF - for binoculars and camera lenses
If you are unsure, it is better to use a film that is also suitable for visual observation.
