Capture stunning solar images with your Smartphone
Would you like to capture the sun and solar eclipses with your smartphone, but find that improvised filters, adhesive or Velcro mounts aren’t up to the job? Then try this set comprising a solar filter, filter mount and smartphone clamp. This ensures your solar filter fits perfectly on your smartphone and that your smartphone sits securely on a tripod.
The benefits:
- Sturdy components with a long service life
- Modular design
- During a total solar eclipse: the Filter can be quickly slid out of the way
You can use the Deluxe filter holder for a wide range of applications, for example during the day with photographic lens filters or at night with nebulae filters. This ‘filter holder’ is attached to the clamp mount using a photographic screw.
Blurry photos or videos are a thing of the past with this clamp mount. Place your smartphone in the clamp mount and secure the mounting firmly to a tripod using the 1/4'' thread. A spring ensures the smartphone is held securely in the mounting. It is suitable for smartphones with a width of 5.5–7.5 cm.
The Foilens filter with an M48 thread is primarily suitable for smart telescopes, Smartphones and star-field binoculars. Its filter film displays the Sun in an orange hue.
Contents:
- M48 solar filters
- Deluxe filter mount with 1/4-inch screw and strap
- Smartphone clamp mount
Our tip: Test the settings on your camera app beforehand. The sun will often appear far too bright with automatic exposure. It’s best if you can adjust the exposure manually. Make sure to use:
- a very short exposure time (1/1000 of a second or shorter)
- low sensitivity (around ISO 100) and
- focus set to infinity
For better image quality, you should select the RAW format where possible.
Easier shots with the Solar Snap app
For even better results when photographing the sun with your Smartphone, we recommend using the ‘Solar Snap’ app. The app helps you position the sun correctly in the frame and find the right camera settings. This makes taking photos much easier, particularly during events such as a solar eclipse. Note: The app is provided by an independent developer. There is no partnership with Omegon. This recommendation is made to simplify use and enable better results. Share your best snaps directly with family and friends!
Our expert comment:
Warning: This solar filter must be fitted to the side of the optical system where the light enters (i.e. on the outside of the objective lens). The light must be filtered before the optical system focuses and magnifies it. Do not use screws to attach the filter to eyepieces! At the focal point of the optical system, the film will melt within a few moments. Anyone looking through a telescope will then be unprotected and could go blind in a very short time.
