Converts a refractor (lens telescope) with a maximum focal length of 540 millimetres into a solar telescope with which the chromosphere and protuberances can be observed in H-alpha light.
The LS50FHa/B600d2 system consists of a filter etalon with a diameter of 50 mm without central obstruction and a B600 block filter. The block filter is integrated into the deflection optics, which looks like a diagonal mirror.
Please note: Observation of the Sun is only safe when both components are used!
The Etalon filter is equipped with an M90 external thread. This allows it to be attached to the lens of a refractor using an optional adaptor. An M90 internal thread at the other end allows the mounting of another optional Etalon filter to further reduce the half-value width ("double stack"). The Etalon can be tilted for fine tuning of the filter.
The blockfilter fits into any 2" focuser. At the eyepiece end, it can accommodate 1.25" eyepieces or cameras with 1.25" slip sleeves. Cameras can also be screwed in place using the T2 thread.
Because the LS50 has an estimated bandpass of <0.70 Angstroms it is capable of providing high contrast views of both surface and edge detail. Adding an additional etalon system will reduce the bandpass to ~<0.50 (dependant upon scope) allowing for higher resolution viewing and/or imaging.
