This filter reduces exposure by 16.5 f-stops. Its density of 5.0 darkens the entire image, which is very useful for photographing solar eclipses.
You can also use it to take photographs with a larger aperture or a slower shutter speed than would normally be required. By extending the exposure time or increasing the aperture, you can better control the depth of field and more easily capture movement.
Neutral density filters do not affect the colour of the image and can be ideally combined with other filters.
To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface is coated with nine multi-layer anti-reflective coatings. This Digital High Grade (DHG) coating also provides better protection for the filter substrate and keeps it cleaner for longer than uncoated filters. It is made of optical glass for clarity and colour fidelity and features a sturdy yet lightweight aluminium alloy filter ring.
It is designed specifically for photographic applications and is not suitable for direct observation of the sun with the naked eye, even with optical finders.
