The very impressive Sky-Watcher Heliostar is a safe solar telescope for observation of active solar prominences and other solar details in the H-Alpha band with an exceptionally low bandwidth of only 0.5 Angstrom or less.
When you view the Sun with such a narrow H-alpha bandwidth, you will be rewarded with exciting, awe-inspiring real-time observations of our closest star in all its fiery glory. Its bubbling surface reveals magnificent details such as solar flares, prominences, spicules, granulation and, of course, sunspots!
The Heliostar uses different technologies to protect your eyes during observation, including a coating against thermal infrared radiation and a UV filter. The Etalon filter only allows the wavelength 656.28 nanometres to pass through. Since this light is emitted by hydrogen, it is also referred to as H-alpha radiation. In this light, the chromosphere of the sun reveals itself with its diverse phenomena.
The Etalon of the Heliostar achieves a bandwidth of only 0.5 Angstroms without the costly and complex use of a second Etalon ("double stack"). It therefore achieves the same performance without additional effort.
The Heliostar complies with and meets the transmission requirements of ISO 12312-2:2015 (filters for direct observation of the Sun).
Always use the telescope according to the instructions and take the utmost care when observing the sun! The permanently integrated solar finder is a helpful aid.
Never use the telescope without the deflection optics in front of the eyepiece, as these optics contain the blockfilter, which is essential for safe solar observation.
