Product description

National Geographic's Reflector telescope - a powerful little beginner's instrument

Even small aperture reflector telescopes will show countless craters on the Moon and details on the larger planets, but still remain affordable. This set provides you with everything you need for getting started in astronomy. The easy and intuitive to use alt-azimuth mount is quick to assemble and is eminently portable. As with all reflector telescopes, this instrument provides a clear image free of irritating colour fringing.

It not only matters which telescope you buy but also where you buy it. Our additional services:

  • We are a leading telescope dealer and know the devices we sell. Our customer service team will gladly help you after your purchase if you have problems with assembly or operation.
  • We provide a copy of the 80-page Telescope ABC beginners handbook with every telescope.

Customer reviews

OK to begin with

( 4 / 5 )

It is a cheap reflector and in my opinion is a good starting point. I would suggest it as a low budget present to move the first steps in astronomy. 20 years ago, a 100+mm aperture telescope was sometimes prohibitively expensive but this mirrors and mass produced telescope from asia are changing the game.

the good stuff:
the OTA is good + the telescope came already well collimated. I managed to get to 150-160X before the image starts to blur. more than enough to see the galilean moons and color bands on Jupiter. no red spot.

the stuff that is OK (for the price I got):
the mount is ok. usable. it is a bit shaky but keep in mind that good mounts come at premium prices many times above 1000€
H eyepieces are OK. maybe the eye relief is a bit short for users with glasses but the barlow lens adds some mm of comfort.
Barlow might be plastic, it is cheap but is much better than having no barlow

the bad stuff:
the flaw is in the finderscope. on bortle 5 and 6, starhopping is crazy difficult since the finder is really tiny, not multicoated and provides low contrast.
granted that for planet observation starhopping is generally not needed. If you want to use this scope to look at DSO, I would suggest to invest on a better finderscope (maybe an 8x50 FMC) and maybe a better eyepiece if budget allows. PS the telescope does not have a standard dove tail mount for the finder and that might need to be purchased separately with the new finder

lastly, the erecting lens is only for nature observation! for sky observation is best not to use it. low light, low contrast.

cheers
