The PHQ series apochromats are Flatfield astrographs that do not require an additional field flattener and do not necessitate complicated calculations to determine the correct distance to the camera sensor (backfocus). Astrophotographers can simply equip a PHQ apochromat with any accessories.
Suitable reducers for changing the focal length are available as accessories. This further increases the light gathering power of the apochromats, albeit at the expense of a narrower field of view.
Unlike the other models in the series, the 65PHQ features a five-element lens design (quintuplet). Three lenses, including two ED glass elements, form the objective lens, whilst two further lenses in the middle section of the tube act as the field flattener (corrector). This enables excellent correction of chromatic aberration and ensures minimal distortion of stars at the edge of the field of view.
