The catadioptric telescopes of the Epsilon series are wide-angle Astrographs with hyperbolic mirrors. A corrector is integrated into the focuser, which enables a flat field with stars of less than 10 μm at the edge of the corrected image circle.
The secondary mirror is mounted on a reinforced spider to prevent any distortion. The rack is equipped with a rotatable clamp (rotator) for photographic alignment.
Collimation of the Epsilon is particularly easy, as it does not have to be done on a star. The central optical axis is indicated by markings on the two mirrors. Takahashi has developed a simple collimation eyepiece system that is specifically designed for the Epsilon and allows the mirrors to be adjusted in daylight, which is a major advantage over a conventional telescope.
Regardless of its photographic qualities, the Epsilon is a first-class wide-field observation telescope with optional eyepieces. The observation of star clusters and galaxies will greatly pleasure you due to the fineness of the stars. It proves to be a fabulous instrument for deep sky and comet hunting. The observation of the Lagoon and Trifid nebulae in the same field is extraordinary and impressive.
The Epsilon 180-ED has an aperture ratio of f/2.8. Its very short focal length of 500 mm offers a field of view of 5° and is therefore suitable for imaging large star fields or comets. The integrated corrector is equipped with two special ED lenses.
