The AP 72/430 optics are a very versatile optical instrument similar to a telephoto lens. The apochromatic doublet with ED element offers sufficient colour purity and high sharpness for use in bright daylight.
- Use as a telephoto lens: The Versatile has an SC thread and an SC/2" adaptor. This means that you can use either an SC/T2 or 2"/T2 adaptor to connect to the T2 thread. So-called T2 rings are available for this T2 thread, which connect to the manufacturer-specific camera mount.
- Use as a telescope: The recommended accessories include a flattener and 2" diagonal mirrors. With these accessories, you can transform the Versatile into a fast telescope with a flat image field: sharp stars right to the edge!
- Use as a spotting scope: Combine the Versatile with a 45° Amici prism and a zoom eyepiece. This gives you optics with a comfortable view of horizontal objects at various magnifications.
As with a telephoto lens, focusing is achieved helically via a large ring and a second ring for fine adjustment. This is particularly convenient for direct connection to an SLR camera, as the distance to the camera body is greater than with classic focusers on other telescopes.
The close-up range of a few metres also makes this optical system a very good instrument for observing and photographing wild animals.
