With its very fast aperture ratio, the N 254/1016 optics are ideal for astrophotography. The focus position and the large secondary mirror ensure an illuminated image field of 25 millimetres – ideal for DSLR cameras in APS-C format.
With the extension tube included in the scope of delivery and the large aperture, this Newtonian telescope can also be used very well for purely visual observation of faint objects: This Newtonian is a universal instrument!
The fast aperture ratio is not only beneficial for photography, but the tube is also unusually short for a ten-inch telescope. This has a positive effect on stability on the mount and makes transport easier.
The primary mirror can be cooled by a fan before observation. This allows for faster temperature equalisation, so you can start observing or photographing immediately after setting up and aligning the telescope.
Of course, the high-quality parabolic primary mirror is adjustable. This also applies to the secondary mirror, which is mounted in an adjustable 0.5 mm thick stainless steel spider. A vapour-deposited layer of quartz protects the mirrors while maintaining high transmission through the protective layer.
The telescope is equipped with a Monorail focuser: This focuser is a further development of the proven Crayford focuser:
- Instead of small ball bearings, a solid stainless steel rail is used, which is fixed on the side
- more precise guidance of the inner tube and no more tilting when clamping
Of course, the Monorail focuser also has a reduction gear, which is particularly important for astrophotography. A motor can be retrofitted.
Berger anti-reflective paint for the best possible internal blackening: Berger anti-reflective paint is used on this Newtonian telescope. It darkens the interior of the tube just as well as velour film. The big advantage, apart from its lower weight, is that the paint hardly attracts dust. The optics remain clean. With velour film, dust accumulates very quickly on the primary mirror.
Carbon Fibre Tube
This apochromat is well suitable to visual observing but was, in fact, developed especially for astrophotography. Use the advantages of a carbon fibre tube: it is particularly light and so even perfectly suitable for using on smaller mounts. The tube also offers a very high inherent stability and only minimal thermal expansion. These advantages are particularly useful for astrophotography, as the focus remains stable for the whole night. The dew shield is also carbon fibre and can be extended easily. In addition, the tube is lined with black felt.
Carbon tube: Made in Germany!
