The ASI4400MC Pro is the latest full-frame deep sky camera from ZWO. It is positioned between the ASI 6200 MC Pro and the AS I2400 MC Pro and offers the perfect balance between image quality and efficiency. This makes it a versatile option in the full-frame range.
The ASI4400MC Pro uses a back-illuminated full-frame sensor measuring 36 × 24 mm with a diagonal of 43.3 mm. With 44 megapixels and 4.4 μm pixels, it delivers incredible resolution and light sensitivity. Thanks to the full-frame format, you can capture the entire image field of your lens – without cropping or cut-off edges – ideal for wide-field photography and large deep-sky objects.
Each pixel has a storage capacity of 74,600 electrons (full well capacity), offering an exceptionally wide dynamic range. Bright stars retain their natural colour and detail, while faint nebulae and galaxy arms remain brilliantly visible. The result is clearer, more balanced images with outstanding tonal depth across the entire field of view.
The ASI4400MC Pro features a 14-bit analogue-to-digital converter (ADC) that provides a dynamic range of over 13 stops. This wide range allows you to capture both bright stars and fine nebula details with a single exposure. The result is a natural, balanced image straight from the camera, giving you plenty of scope for post-processing and fine-tuning.
The ASI4400MC Pro is equipped with a powerful two-stage TEC cooling system that lowers the temperature of the CMOS sensor to 30 to 35 °C below the ambient temperature. This intensive cooling significantly reduces dark current and thermal noise, even during exposures lasting several minutes. The result is a higher signal-to-noise ratio and improved image quality in every single image.
Note: Cooling performance depends on the ambient temperature. The lower the ambient temperature, the lower the achievable temperature difference. The results are based on tests at an ambient temperature of 30 °C. Operation below -20 °C is not recommended.
The camera effectively suppresses sensor glow thanks to ZWO's glow suppression technology.
Tilt adapter: The ASI4400MC Pro has three pairs of adjustment screws for sensor tilt. Each pair consists of a push screw and a pull screw, which allow you to precisely adjust the alignment of the sensor to the optical axis of your telescope. This adjustment helps to correct even slight tilts that can cause stars to appear distorted or blurred at the edges of the image. This ensures sharp and uniform focusing across the entire image.
512MB DDR3:
The internal 512MB DDR3 image buffer effectively reduces the pressure on computer transfer. This is a great help for planetary photography, where large amounts of data often need to be written in a short time. Some of the deep sky astrophotography cameras on the market today often only have 256 MB. This is a real bottleneck and source of image errors.
Anti-Fog Function: On clear nights, the front glass of the camera cools down significantly; humidity condenses as dew and ruins your shots. A wafer-thin polyimide heating foil warms the glass just enough to prevent condensation. This "Anti Dew Heater" requires about 5 watts and can be switched off when you need to save power.
Cooled ZWO ASI cameras need a 12V power supply, If you don’t have one, please check the recommended accessories for a suitable power adapter.
External power supplies are needed for all ASl-cooled cameras. We recommend you use a 12V@3A~5A DC adapter (D5.5×2.1mm, center pole positive) or a lithium battery with 11-14V to power the camera. Be aware that using a power supply out of this voltage range will probably lead to irreparable damage to the camera.
