"Ultravid" redefined
The Leica Ultravid class has always impressed with its technical excellence and outstanding optical quality. Now, with the innovative Ultravid HD models featuring 50, 42 and 32 mm objective lens diameters, Leica engineers have once again set new standards.
Handy long-range viewers
The new 32 HD models impress not only with their extremely compact design, but also with their new HD optics, which make them even more powerful.
SPECIAL FEATURES of the Leica Ultravid HD models in detail:
Fluoride-containing optics
With the help of new fluoride (FL) glass types, the colour fidelity and contrast of the images in the Leica HD models have been further improved. Optical FL glass consists largely of calcium fluoride, a mineral with a crystalline structure. Unlike conventional optical glass, this produces very low dispersion (light scattering) and significantly better correction of aberrations (image errors). The result is a viewing experience that is more natural and impressive than ever before.
Imitating nature: Leica AquaDuraTM
The binocular models with new HD and APO optics are now equipped with Leica AquaDuraTM, a hydrophobic coating that ensures clear vision even in bad weather thanks to its water- and dirt-repellent properties. Just like the leaves of a lotus plant, raindrops simply roll off the optics, and fingerprints and dirt particles are much easier to remove. In addition, Leica AquaDuraTM protects the valuable optics even more effectively from damage thanks to its increased abrasion resistance.
Increased light transmission
Through the consistent further development of the anti-reflection coatings and the mirror coatings on the prisms, the already very high transmission has been increased by a further 3 per cent. Image brightness is crucial, especially in poor lighting conditions and at dusk. If a coating is optimised specifically for night use, this comes at the expense of colour neutrality with conventional optics, which is a disadvantage for daytime observation – the image can take on a blue cast. The reverse approach can result in a green cast. The new Leica HD line now reliably combines optimum image brightness with consistent colour neutrality.
Excellent imaging performance in difficult light
Scattered or false light can significantly impair the viewing experience. To effectively eliminate this, Leica has taken a number of measures to ensure a clear, high-resolution image without contrast reduction or restrictions due to milky veils, even in difficult side lighting and backlighting situations. A specially developed software simulation makes scattered light visible as early as the development phase. The designs of the new HD models have been optimised with an improved housing shape, better light-absorbing coatings, diaphragms and stray light traps so that stray light is (almost) no longer an issue. After all, you can't choose the position of the sun when observing nature.
Consistently smooth focusing – regardless of temperature
The mechanics of the Ultravid HD focusing system have been further refined. This makes focusing even smoother and ensures that it remains free of play throughout the entire range. Optimised material combinations and sliding discs made of extremely strong high-performance plastic are used. Conventional greased focusing mechanisms can become sluggish in cold conditions and too smooth at higher temperatures. These focusing mechanisms can also feel "sticky" and, at higher temperatures, there is even a risk of grease escaping and running into the optics.
risk of grease escaping and running into the optics. These risks are eliminated with the optimised Leica focusing mechanism.
All 32 models are available with shock-absorbing rubber armouring in black.
