Product description

Similar to illustration: delivery without diagonal mirror / flip mirror

This high-quality telescope for observation of the Sun in H-Alpha light leaves nothing to be desired. DayStar, the specialist in solar telescopes, combines an h-alpha filter with a multi-coated achromatic duplet:

  • Compact telescope tube – also suitable for smaller mounts
  • Crayford focuser with fine-adjustment mechanism
  • Carrying case made of aluminium
  • Includes DayStar QUARK filter
  • 2" diagonal mirrors with dielectric coating

The Solar Scout solar telescope is fitted with the QUARK h-alpha filter from DayStar. What makes it special is that you can remove the QUARK filter to use it with other optics! Without the QUARK filter, the telescope can be used for ‘classic’ astronomical observations at night: explore the Moon, the planets and various deep-sky objects – even through photography!

An integrated heater regulates the exact distance within the QUARK etalon filter via thermal expansion. You should therefore wait around 10 minutes before beginning an observation, until the temperature has stabilised. Once the LED on the filter has changed from yellow to green, you can begin your observation. A rotary knob on the filter allows you to vary the transmitted central wavelength by +/- 0.5 angstroms. A USB power supply is included in the package to provide the necessary power. After each adjustment, you should wait briefly until the temperature has stabilised again (green LED). Turning the knob clockwise slightly shifts the central wavelength to a longer wavelength. This makes red-shifted structures visible – that is, structures moving away from us. Turning the knob anti-clockwise shifts the central wavelength towards shorter wavelengths.

DayStar offers two versions of the QUARK H-Alpha module, each of which has been optimised for a specific application:

Both variants are priced the same. The difference lies solely in their optimisation: the half-width of the prominence variant is slightly greater. Thanks to the higher light transmission, even the finest prominences at the solar limb are visible. The chromosphere variant has a narrower half-width and therefore images structures on the solar disc with high spectral resolution.

Of course, you can also perform observations of prominences with the chromosphere model, and vice versa.

In line with the two variants of the QUARK filter, every DayStar h-alpha solar telescope is available in both a prominence and a chromosphere version.

Also included in the package is a sturdy carrying case made of aluminium, in which this high-quality telescope can be ideally stored and safely transported.

It not only matters which telescope you buy but also where you buy it. Our additional services:

  • We are a leading telescope dealer and know the devices we sell. Our customer service team will gladly help you after your purchase if you have problems with assembly or operation.
  • We provide a copy of the 80-page Telescope ABC beginners handbook with every telescope.
