More about the series CT Ultra...
The CT Ultra series offers Newtonian telescopes with different apertures and focal lengths, equipped with a carbon tube.
The primary mirror of the CT Ultra has a surface accuracy of 1/10 Lamda (peak-to-valley) and a high reflectivity of 97% thanks to the HiLux coating. Each telescope is delivered with exact optical specifications and a ZYGO interferogram.
The telescopes are supplied without a mounting rail (prism rail) but with tube clamps. The tube clamps are flattened at the top and bottom and allow the mounting of rails and accessories, such as a guidescope, via M6 internal threads.
Mirror Cells: The best optics in the world can be literally ruined unless they are supported correctly in a telescope’s body. Badly designed mirror supports (cells) are more than capable of turning the image from a 1/10PV wavefront mirror into worse than a whole wavelength of inaccuracy. This telescopes comes with a computer optimised, anodised aluminium surface cell with built in cooling fan (12V DC).
It has a 9 point, nylon66 tipped suspension system which spreads the ‘load’ of the mirror as evenly as possible over those 9 points at the back of the mirror.
Focuser ACU-2S: This is a high quality 2” (50.8mm) Crayford focuser. The actual mechanism is ultra smooth, both in its normal focusing speed and, in its lower geared 10:1 ratio micro adjustment for precise focusing with an eyepiece or camera. For photography it is ideal for small to medium sized cameras, including DSLR and medium format CCD chips. Looking the knurled knob will tighten the draw tube in the chosen position and no movement is produced to offer, sharp, flawless images.

Our expert comment:
Note: All telescopes from Orion Optics UK are handmade in England and are therefore unique items that are not mass-produced. As a result, they may have individual external differences or minor cosmetic marks, which in no way affect the optical imaging quality of the telescopes! Rather, such marks are the result of individual production and subsequent optical testing in the Orion Optics UK workshop.
